Content Placeholder Boxes

Requirements

  • Always use content placeholder boxes for text.
  • Placeholder boxes should never overlap. This interferes with the screen reader user experience.
  • Make sure the reading order is set correctly for each slide. See Reading Order for more information.
  • Never insert text boxes from the ribbon (Insert > Text > Text Box). These types of text boxes are inaccessible.

Important Info

  • The Pearson template provides many configuration options. To view, go to Home > Slides > Layout.
  • Default font and size is set at Arial, 16 point. Other acceptable fonts are Calibri and Verdana. Font size should not be smaller than 16 point except for caption text which is set at 12 point. See Font Types and Sizes for more information.
  • If a content placeholder box is deleted by accident, do not manually add a text box from the ribbon (Insert > Text > Text Box). This type of text box is not accessible because it does not show up in the Outline view. Instead, replace the slide using a new slide from the Layout choices (Home > Slides > Layout).

Tips

  • Content placeholder boxes can be resized and moved to fit your design needs.
  • Be sure to put enough white space between your placeholder boxes to keep them readable for everyone.
  • Check the Outline View (View > Presentation Views > Outline View) to verify the title and contents of the slide show up properly. Images, charts, and tables do not show in Outline View. See Outline View for more information.
