Hyperlinks

Requirements

  • Use meaningful text for hyperlinks (do not use “click here” or “read more” for hyperlink text)
  • Raw URLs may be appropriate at times, if they are short.
  • When linking to another slide within the deck, always provide a return link.
  • Hyperlinks and followed links must have a 4:5 to 1 color contrast ratio.
  • Screen tips should not be used. By default, most screen readers do not read the additional information.

Important Info

Hyperlink to another slide within the deck

There are many reasons to add hyperlinks to another slide, such as an appendix slide containing a long description for an image. When directing a user to another slide, always provide a return link back to the presentation slide.

Followed links

Once the user activates a hyperlink, the color of the link changes color to indicate a visited state. Make sure that the followed link also meets the color contrast ratio of 4:5 to 1.

Test the hyperlink

Once you have inserted the link, always test it to ensure that it works correctly.
